Analytical solutions for excess pore water pressures generated by TBM tunnelling in a semi-confined aquifer

Tunnel-boring machine (TBM) tunnelling through an aquifer will generate excess pore water pressures in the soil around tunnel face. Accurately predicting magnitude of is significant because it directly determines effective face support pressure. In this study, analytical solution for transient cylindrical flow caused by TBM considering elastic storage developed. Furthermore, a quasi-static to couple effect slurry infiltration with presented. It shown that derived from match quite well measurements obtained proximity as far away TBM. The coupled also agrees places close face, but underestimates observations results show larger distance leads slower dissipation pressures, which does not make difference during excavation (when velocity faster than fluid velocity).
